About Book

His Favorite Drumbeat

Marcus Avery learned rhythm in the streets long before he ever
touched a church drum set. Raised by a father who played
percussion by day and pushed poison by night, Marcus grew up
knowing two things: talent can’t save you, and the streets don’t let
go easy.

Then there’s Renee Matthews. Bold. Unfiltered. A woman with red
lips, sharp heels, and doesn’t date projects—and Marcus refuses to
be one.

As judgmental church aunties circle like hawk. The streets start
whispering Marcus’s name again, old ties threaten to drag him back
into a life he swore he left behind.

Love will test them.
The church will watch them.
The past will chase them.

And redemption?

It has a rhythm of its own.
But chemistry doesn’t ask for permission.

About Author

Kyina Q. Routt|

I write for the women who carry grace in one hand, strategy in the other, and still walk with their heads held high — even when the world underestimates them. I’m Kyina Q. Routt — author of Church Chronicles series featuring First Lady Games, where scandal, faith, and power collide. My stories are deeply rooted in the legacy of Black women who survive storms in stilettos and build empires with wisdom and fire. I’m a proud wife of 25 years, a mother of two incredible sons, and a business owner with a master’s in business administration and a bachelor’s in information technology management.

Raised by my grandparents as a preacher’s kid in the heart of the South, I know what it means to live between tradition and transformation — and those layered truths inspire every word I write.

My books are unapologetically Black, wildly dramatic, emotionally deep, and full of passion, like Scandal, Empire, and 50 Shades, but made for us.

When I’m not writing, I’m building brands, mentoring, or loving hard on my family. Faithful. Fierce. And writing fiction that feels like a front-row seat to everything we weren’t supposed to say out loud.
